Remembering Florence

Here is the Order of Service for the funeral of Florence Mbui, a former service user of the Santé Project, which supported Florence with a befriender and advocacy.  The Home Office delayed dealing with her Asylum application until eventually her illness overcame her.  How sad that in her last days and hours she was unable to receive Leave to Remain after many attempts to alert the Home Office to her poor health and need for citizenship.  When she attended A&E feeling unwell she was sent home being told she was OK and died within an hour in the nursing home we found for her.  Austerity in the NHS and institutional racism were without a doubt a major contributory cause of her death.  Even the coroner’s report whitewashes the causes of death.  It is a miserable travesty of justice which should be laid at the door of this hostile Tory government.
